Did. Haven't bought a gun in about 15 years. Sometimes you can get good
deals at pawnshops, but take someone w/ you who knows enough about guns to
spot any potential flaws or problems. Ask shooters you know in the area
where they get their guns and who they trust. That's what I did when I
started out. And yes, a shotgun will generally be cheaper than a good
revolver or pistol. Partial to S & W .357 Magnums my own self. But I do
have a 12 gauge Winchester pump shotgun too. Just the sound of racking that
thing will scare most people off. 1st year I lived here (used to be a drug
house before I bought it) I had all kinds of scuzzy visitors at all hours
and got sick of it, the cops wouldn't do diddly. So I started answering the
door w/ the 12 gauge and would rack it loudly on my side of the door. Next
thing I would hear would be feet running, doors slamming and tires
squealing. One scuzball damn near popped a wheelie in a red car he was
trying to get away from here so fast. Did I laugh. Being a small town,
word finally got out. Then we caught that idiot breaking into the auction
next door. When he climbed out the window, John (Lt. Laney Kaufman PD) was
pointing his service pistol at him, I had my 12 gauge pointed at him (in my
bathrobe and house slippers - stylish) and Pat in her jammies had John's
back up revolver and a flashlight pointed at the guy. He didn't budge
uuntil the cops got there. Bet he had to change his britches - LOL. We
didn't have anyone break in anywhere in the neighborhood after that. Ha ha
ha ha. Don't mess w/ small town folks in East Texas now. Cracks me UP.
