Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: hum/water

re: our water problem in Hills: The EPA says that it has now
definitively defined the boundaries of the plume and surprise!!!...it is
bigger than they had anticipated. No source identified as of yet.
Routine sampling of worst contamination sites is ongoing every 3 months
or so while the EPA sorts out what to do next. Meanwhile, they continue
to supply water to those homes exceeding what they have tentatively
identified as a safe drinking level. Although, speaking of which, the
battle to legally and scientifically define a safe level rages on in
Washington DC between the EPA, the National Academy of Sciences, the
Department of Defense, and the aerojet industry. Of course, the EPA and
the NAS would like to see a lower level set (less than 4 parts per
billion) while the DOD and the aerojet manufacturers would like to see a
radically higher level (400 parts per billion or higher). Follow the
money and who do you think is likely to win??? Regardless, our town is
pursuing our own interests and has commissioned an intensive water study
to be done by an independent engineering firm. We will be paying in
excess of $30,000 for the study but are confident the results of it will
be impartial and therefore should give us a good idea of what OUR next
steps will be, independent of what the EPA thinks they might or might
not do. Stay tuned...and thanks for asking, Pam! Did you call Austin yet
about your water problems?
