I normally would remove the HD too, but that won't help Pam any.

Does anyone know why Pam thinks the computer is fried? Just what is it doing
or not doing?

Daryl, Bottom line, Chris would know much better than I do about cleaning out a computer. When I trash them, I put everything I want on an external hard
drive, delete what is sensitive, clear the temps files etc, take the hard
drive out and smash it to..... then turn the rest in when they have one of
those recycle drives around here. Word on the street is - a good computer
expert can get just about everything off a drive even if you delete it. Not
sure if that is true or not...

Daryl, that's darned nice of you.
I don't really know how to clean the machine of personal stuff without also losing the programs on it. Perhaps, Chris or Donna would know. When I sold my old computer and my dad's, in both cases I just went through the entire C
drive deleting personal files.

Ok . If she uses dial-up (I think it's too primitive for cable or DSL),
send
me her address or have her give me a call (in the morning - I'm not a
nightowl ) . I'll send you my phone number in a private message.

Can somebody tell me how to wipe my private info without wrecking the OS,
please?

Daryl...that would be AWESOME. I know money is tight for her right
now....and she's pretty bummed out about it.

If she can't, and she uses dial-up, I have an ancient Toshiba laptop that
still runs. I was going to clear my info and offer it on Freecycle, but
if
it would be useful, she's welcome to it. It's running windows 98 . I
thought it was dead after DH left it in the truck one night and it froze,
but I charged it up this weekend and it runs.
