I don't have to be an expert to answer the question on bud count. Lots of my ABs have only 1. Branching was a major hybridizing objective when I got started with irises in the middle 60s.

BTW, in reference to the discussion on bud counts, all my ABs have either 2 or 3 buds per stalk.  I wonder if that is true for all ABs.
