Smiles, but no joke.  I also have the wild aster as a carpet encroaching on the beds.  Wish I didn’t.

That it is. This particular variety grows a four foot stalk. It will not ordinarily stand erect and tends to lean. Left to its on devices in a dedicated bed (or a taken over bed) it will get thick enough for the stalks to support each other and stand strong enough to choke a bush hog.
