Betty, count me as one who will be thrilled (and relieved) to see ruffles in buds.  I have lots of crosses of moderns with old, tough rebloomers. 
I've seen lots I thought were prettier in bud.  I have some too.  Here's one that was woofing even in bud, the product of a bee pod I used for experience.  Would have recycled it when it finished blooming, but my neighbor actually wanted it.  She'd never seen a 44 inch iris before.
