The plant used for perfume is actually Iris pallida and it is grown mostly in northern parts of Italy.  It is located all over  the place in Italy as a wild, induced species much the way we have ditch daylillies here. Ther are a number of scientific studies on the special chemical properties of this rhizome. This is not one of the variagated plants that we see so often in commerce in North America.
