Ugly isn't the right word. Retro maybe? If this iris had a 1920's vintage it would probably be considered outstanding. To ascribe it as ugly consigns a lot of older iris into a category that's not merited at all. Something that does well in Austin is not something to sneer about. I lived there a long time and it's not always an ideal environment for iris.
