RE: Hyb Registered Rebloomers 2007

Hi Loic

I get very tired of buying "rebloomers" that don't rebloom for me and so an
cautious of calling something a rebloomer on registration unless I see it
regularly rebloom. Also I use a lot of Sutton stuff in my breeding program
but much of this is alkaline soil rebloomers which don't rebloom for us. So
it may well rebloom for others but I would hesitate to register it as a
rebloomer. My Trudy Bee(06) (Deja Blue x Sneezy) has rebloom on both sides
(neither of which has rebloomed for me) and it didn't do a decent rebloom
for me until the autumn after I released it, so wasn't registered as a
rebloomer, but I'm waiting to see what it does now for those on alkaline

Bremer Sunset (Jenkins)a registered rebloomer, is growing here at our place,
in the state trial gardens and has never rebloomed here, yet the breeder
lives only about 50 miles away on very different soils.

In fact, i found 42...!

The 'winners' are the Suttons from California with 12 entries, respectively
father George 7 and son Michael 5.
Donald Spoon from Oregon registered 9.

I hope some typing specialists will be able to edit this more efficiently.
I didn't type it in a table because it doesn't go through to iris-talk.

There are more potential rebloomers in the 2007 booklet, but these are the
'real ones'...hopefully!

In fact it was a pleasure to finally put it black on white.

have fun with it!

Let me approach this from MY perspective.? I live in zone 6.? How many of
these 39 introductions can I reasonably expect to rebloom in my garden??
many were TB?)

Bad news for the Rebloomers and for their Fans...

Each year i go through the Registrations of the year, and count the irises
  registered as Rebloomers...
Here is the table with the results: year reblomers total
        2001 55 964
        2002 54 1051
        2003 52 1031
        2004 46 1052
        2005 43 1268
        2006 39 1152
        2007 39 1193

The more irises that are registered, the less rebloomers there seems to be
  among them.
I find these figures quite depressing...

Unless breeders are so impatient to register them they don't take enough
to wait for proof of rebloom, or maybe they just don't bother signal it:
there are many irises that have good rebloom potential considering the
parents, and might be rebloomers finally....one can hope...!

There is also the fact that a great number of irises come from cold
now, and might not have a chance to rebloom there.
They might show rebloom with warmer and longer Autumns.......one can

Voil`, food for thought, and maybe an incentive for all daubers, to have a
and give a chance to some RE X RE crosses....one can dream and hope !

who, like Betty, could die (or kill...) for a repeat, cycle &
  continuous / non-daylight dependant rebloomer!
