Lurking for awhile

I've been lurking on the list for several week and would like
to introduce myself finally. My name is Doug Hadley (29yrs). I live
in Austin, Texas (zone 8b). My wife(Dianna 27yrs) and I received
about 100 iris(TB) from a friend of my mother about 2 years ago. I
have now idea what names they are but next spring I am going to
take samples to the Iris Society of Austin (ISA)for some help identifing
them. I joined the ISA two weeks ago and look forward to learning
more about the art and science of iris growing. Our iris had a pretty
tough year this year mostly due to my lack of knowledge about the
spacing and nutritional requirements of the iris. We have already
expanded our beds in preparation for dividing in the fall.

I have one question that I know someone listening will be able to
answer. I discovered 3 pods on 3 separate iris. I believe these
to be seed pods, but I was under the understanding that iris sent
ofshoots from the mother rhizome as a means of propagation. What
are these pods? What should I do with them?

Thanks for the information in advance.
