It's hard to tell - with all those parentheses in the pedigree, MIDWEST GEM
must be at least 6 or 7 generations back from MAGICAL ENCOUNTER. The
immediate crosses were with CHANTILLY, an orchid pink. Those interested in
introducing red irises into pink breeding lines might note SAVAGE in the
pedigree, while those who suggested orchid pinks as a source for deepening
the color of pink irises can take comfort in AMETHYST FLAME and PRETTY
CATOL, as well as CHANTILLY. Whatever the goal of this line of breeding, it
seems to have taken a long time to reach fruition, as MAGICAL ENCOUNTER is
apparently the first introduction from the long line of seedlings
represented by the pod parent.
