Great information!

That is really neat!!

Dear Christopher, dear Peter,

- I grow my plant in a "wintergarten" with window southwards
- temperatures in winter > 18/20 °C, in summer up to 35 °C, I guess...
- recently 2 x 100 W cool-white LED, which is not too much, but helps a LOT during the poor natural light condition at 52 ° latitude
- peatbased mix, perlite, pine bark, charcoal chips in order to give a good draining substrate
- fertilzed with a complex mineral fertilizer (macro+ micro; in summer more N, autumn, winter lower in N, more P; mostly fertilizer suitable for hydroponics); most often with every watering or twice a week at about 0.3-0.5 g/L (0.03-0.05 %)

Dormancy is short, maybe 4 - 6 weeks and I keep it slightly moist in the pot.

Protarum sechellarum is a monotypic genus; the Seychelles north of Madagascar do not have a dry season, so keeping the plant always in damp substrate when the leaf dies back seems to be fine.

@Peter: nearly no scent at all; at least I noticed nothing; my wife recognized something, but obviously  not to bad; she did not remember the scent today...

After remembering about the seller's remark on selfing I removed the spatha and had a look yesterday (first pic); indeed shedded pollen; the second pic from today - I will have to wait if the ovules develop

Finally a picture of the plant in full leaf.

Enjoy, Bernhard.

Dear Bernhard,

That is a gorgeous plant. I am very pleased!!!  ;-)

What are your local conditions? What do you do with it during dormancy?  I have never grown this genus. What species is it?

Happy days,
Christopher

Aroiders,
Dear Christopher - not only to please you ;-)

I attach some pictures of my Protarum in bloom.

I got the plant in 2015 as a small offset at ebay from a dutch collector and it bloomed two years later.
Due to poor light conditions and too much watering I nearly lost it in 2018 (see last pic)
Now, since I invested in 2 x 100 W LED it does well over winter.

Would someone know if Protarum is an exception to protogyny to prevent selfing in Araceae?
I once had something like a berry with a seedlike  structure; but there was no development/germination.
I ask about selfing since the seller of my plant wrote that selfing is possible in Protarum.

Happy growing,
Bernhard.
