Pedro, if there were aerial roots it's easy to propagate the top by taking off a couple of the lower leaves and putting the stem in a pot of light, peat-based mix. Same procedure if there are no aerials, it will just take longer to grow a good root system. If leaves wilt, you'll have to take off a few more leaves to lessen the moisture demand from the roots. Or you can put the plant in a plastic bag which will increase humidity and decrease demand through leaves.
Regarding the base of the plant, you'll just wait for it to produce new growth from the top 2 or 3 nodes.
If you want to take stem cuttings for more plants, I like to take at least 2 or 3 node cuttings, take off the lower leaf or two, and plant in a mix. You can also plant sideways with the stem buried no deeper than half the width, cut off aerial roots on the top side, bury those on the bottom. I find there is less chance of stem rot this way since both ends are exposed to the air. Long fiber sphagnum moss has a natural rot-inhibiting quality, I use it as a rooting medium for rare or special plants, often with some perlite scrubbed into it.
Perlite mixed with a little peat-based soilless mix will rot fewer cuttings than the mix alone. The addition of peat provides a clue to the moisture level of perlite, it will be dark-colored when wet, light when dry.
Don't hesitate to post again if any questions.

Well, needless to say, it broke in half, and now I have two pieces of P. hastatum with some broken petioles, even though the buds seem to be fine.I'm just a little lost on how to proceed in making it grow now, since it is somewhat different from the kind of philodendron nodes I'm used to deal with. The cutting was around half meter high,so there still are a few good nodes in it.Thank you in advance for any help.Pedro
