My apologies to anyone offended by the words "homicidal" and "stupid" in
my recent email to this list. In retrospect, I should've skipped my
emotional response, and just let everyone judge the facts.
Speaking of facts, since a question arose as to whether pyrethroids were
responsible for any fatalities, here's a relevant quote from
http://www.igc.org/panna/resources/_pestis/PESTIS.1996.14.html:
"In the five years (1983-1988) after pyrethroids began to be used in
China, 573 cases (299 occupational and 344 accidental) of acute
pyrethroid poisoning were reported. Of those, five resulted in death.
At the time the study was published, only one other case of fatal
pyrethroid (cypermethrin) poisoning had ever been reported in the
literature."
Note that cypermethrin is one of the ingredients found in the insecticidal
chalk.
