A. konjac - prolonged dormancy in light - reason?

Amorphophiles,

a friend notieced that his konjac offsets stored in darkness beginn to thrive whilst equal ones store in light are still dormant.

Has anyone observed the same?
Would someone know the physological reason behind it?
