Amorphophallus` roots cycle of life question

Dear All,
I have a question concerning cycle of life of roots of Amorphophallus
species coming from Sumatra/Java/Kalimantan. So we can often see picture
for example of A.titanum after it falls into dormancy and they are
always rootless tubers - does it mean that roots dies down always when
plant is dormant? Or it varies from species to species (still talking
only about species from the area)?
I am wonder what is your experience/knowledge about?

With regards, Martin
