Years ago there were at least 4 philos called Santa Leopoldina and all were numbered. Pretty sure atabapoense was Santa Leopoldina II. P. bernardopazii was another with a number (maybe IV), then called Superbum and finally given the species name. The present very desirable Santa Leopoldina seems to be the only one left that hasn’t been described and named. I’ve wondered if there are any still left in the wild or on the property of Roberto Burle-Marx in Brazil.

I also bought a “Santa Leopoldina” years ago, and it was an atabapoense. This does not appear to be a climber but more like a thaumatophyllum.

I've had "Sante Leopoldina" and it turned out to be atabapoense X billietiae.

Hi Jill,
Did you intend to include a photo of your plant or are you asking just in regard to the name in general? Double-checking as I don’t see an attachment.

I am curious what this is actually called these days, used to be P. Santa Leopoldina, and with the change in name of so many non-climbing philos, what is this called now? Sorry if it is a dumb question. I got a seedling that is rather large from Ecuagenera US and it has grown a new leaf and doesn’t seem to be as fussy as I thought it might be. So it at least is a twofold question. Thanks all!
