Hi Veronica,
I don't know if you are a member of IAS who receives the newsletter; but in the current issue there is an article by Siddharth Naveenachandran on Aroid Cultivars. That article points out that plants of different origins are still the same cultivar if they cannot be told apart by the accepted criteria. In terms of your project, this might mean that some cultivar names must be reduced to synonymy. In that case -- and other members can correct me if I am mistaken -- the first name registered becomes the valid name, and all subsequent names are the synonyms.
