Judy,
If the weed trees are ailanthus and/or mulberry, I doubt that even the bob cat would do the job. However, getting rid of them would be a giant plus. Both of them will grow through almost anything including landscape paper and especially compost and other goodies.
You could try a tractor with a rotovator if you can find one.
