TREE PROGRAM ASSISTANT

The Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH), a statewide non-profit greening
organization, is seeking an organized, self-motivated and enthusiastic
individual to fill this full-time, permanent position with benefits. The
Tree Program Assistant will be engaged in DCH-sponsored urban forestry
projects in the City of Wilmington and New Castle County.

The Tree Program Assistant will:
* Assemble tree planting requests, assist in coordinating the work of
volunteers, residents, arborists and contractors, evaluate tree planting
sites throughout Wilmington and New Castle County, maintain database, draft
correspondence and contracts to obtain funding and carry out tree work.
* Organize and carry out Arbor Day events with Wilmington elementary schools
(plan, budget, prepare grant proposals, schedule activities, procure
materials, and promote.)
* Assist in developing and executing tree education and interpretation
programs including: curriculum, brochures and handouts, speakers, promotion
and evaluation.
* Assist in developing and organizing New Castle County Tree Commission
initiatives including: tree planting projects, county-wide tree appreciation
event, forest inventory and tree promotion and legislation initiatives.

Training in horticulture or arboriculture preferred; demonstrate excellent
written and verbal communication skills and possess a particular affinity to
community building through urban forestry.
