POSITION TITLE: Assistant Garden Coordinator
Part-time: 20 to 30 hours per week

Wages: $13.39 per hour

Seattle Tilth is a 22-year-old non-profit with a mission is to promote organic gardening and farming. We educate people to garden and eat organically, and to reduce waste through composting and conservation, thereby creating a vibrant and sustainable community.
Responsibilities:
· Under supervision of the Garden Coordinator maintain the Seattle Tilth Gardens
· Help Garden Coordinator develop long range plans for the Seattle Tilth gardens
· Work with volunteers and garden interns
· Maintain written records of activities including volunteer database, lesson plans, etc.
· Assist in the planning and coordination of the Seattle Tilth Plant Sale
· Assist in the coordination and volunteer management of all Tilth training classes
· Public speaking on garden topics for various groups
· Be a garden resource person
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Strong organic gardening and composting knowledge, with demonstrated hands on experience
· Strong organizational proficiency
· Excellent computer skills and experience setting up data bases
· Teaching background
· Proven volunteer manger expertise
· Strong writing and speaking skills
· Background working with diverse populations
· Aptitude in working independently and as part of a team

Job Description
Children's Garden Teaching Intern
Seattle Tilth Association
In the Seattle Tilth Association Children's Garden programs, we teach elementary school students organic gardening awareness and techniques. Our programs include school field trips to our gardens in Wallingford and Bradner Gardens Park, presentations to second grade classrooms around the city, summer camp programs, and children's activities at Tilth Plant Sale and Harvest Fair. The teaching intern will teach in all of these programs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead elementary school students in experiential garden-based curriculum.
- Teach soil education presentations in public school classrooms.
- Assist in scheduling field trips and school visits.
- Assist in organizing and leading summer programs.
- Organize children's activities at Tilth Plant Sale and Harvest Fair.
- Work with Tilth staff and volunteers.
Applicant Requirements: We are seeking a mature, enthusiastic person who is confident that they will be able to teach to groups of 30 kindergartners. Teaching and/or gardening experience a must. Car helpful. Computer skills desirable. Work takes place weekdays (9 am to 3 pm).
16-20 hours per week; between mid-February and the end of October, 2002. Thorough training and support provided. Pay range: $9-10/hour DOE.
