Re: do it yourself 'grow' lights

I've always just used the tubes that came with the fixtures, could you explain why one cool and one warm? And do they all have mercury in them? Thanks.

H M is absolutely right. There's also the still cheap, high end version that I use--4 ft fixtures what got 4 tubes each. They're awesome! And the new T-8 tubes are sleeker, use less juice and got (less?) (no??) mercury in em.

I have used shop lights (4 foot) with one "cool" and one "warm" tube in
each rigged with cord on a pulley system for raising and lowering the
lights to accommodate the increasing heights of seedlings. This system is
inexpensive and effective, especially when plugged into a timer for
automatic operation.

anyone have simple designs for inexpensive 'grow' lights; not for
hydroponics; for seed starting. something simple for use in a classroom
on top of a
table.
thanks!
