Chris,
The largest and possibly oldest University Community Garden is located at
the University of Wisconsin, Madison, The Eagle Heights Community Garden :
http://www.sit.wisc.edu/~ehgarden/
There is a wealth of community garden information and lore to be found on
the American Community Gardening Association's web site:
http://www.communitygarden.org/ , including academic studies, surveys and
grass roots organizing tips. While use of these materials is presented for
free by the ACGA, joining the ACGA is one of the best ways to assure that
these materials and the cause of community gardening, food security and open
space greening are supported into the 21st century.
Happy researching,
Adam Honigman

Greetings to all!
I am curious about community gardens on university campuses. Does anyone
know of any or know of any literature regarding gardens on campuses? An
environmental group on campus is thinking about lobbying the campus
administration for a small plot of land and is interested in reading up on
any literature that may be out there.
Also, I am working on my master's thesis studying the DCAS public land
auction in New York that was to be scheduled on 12-13 May 1999. I'm
studying the geography of the different forms of activism that took place
in the months leading up to the proposed auction, and how these different
kinds of activism took root at different scales (i.e. gardens,
neighborhood garden coalitions, citywide coalitions), or how different
organizations worked successfully at different scales to oppose the
auction. I am interested in getting perspectives from across the city on
individual and organizational efforts in preparing for the proposed
auction. I have already scheduled a number of interviews (thank you!) and
would like to get more so as to get as many perspectives on the proposed
auction as possible. If you are interested in participating, or know
somebody that is, please email me (mapman420@yahoo.com) with any questions
or comments and I can call you to get everything straightened out. I'll
be in NYC at the end of the month, from February 25 to March 1.
Thank you thank you thank you!
