Program Coordinator for From the Roots Up

The American Community Gardening Association (ACGA) is seeking a full-time
Program Coordinator for From the Roots Up (FTRU).  The coordinator will
have the responsibility for the ongoing development of From the Roots Up, a
major ACGA program which includes the Growing Communities Curriculum,
mentorships, trainings in a wide range of areas, and four pilot workshops
in connection with the Growing Communities Manual.  The coordinator will
oversee the editing of the Growing Communities manual, a 100-300 page
curriculum manual which brings together training materials related to
community gardening. The Coordinator will also administer a grant award
program funded by a national gardening magazine. It is a position that
requires knowledge of community gardening's role in community development;
writing and editing skills; and the ability to work with a wide cross
section of people on highly diverse tasks.

Qualifications:  ACGA is seeking a qualified candidate with at least 5
years experience in the following  areas.  

*  workshop planning
*  curriculum development
*  program planning and design
*  administration/ coordination
*  public relations
*  fundraising/grantwriting 

This position requires a highly self-motivated individual who is also a
team player. Writing samples and letters of reference will be required from
finalists. 

The Coordinator will confer with a committee of the ACGA board and work
with other consultants to conceive and produce the workshops and manual. 
The Coordinator will be supervised and monitored by a committee of the ACGA
board.

Terms of employment:   
Full-time.  
$30-40,000 plus benefits.
Position is currently funded from April 2000 - July 2001. (The ACGA
Development Committee will actively seek continued funding.)

Established in 1979, the American Community Gardening Association (ACGA)
promotes the growth of community gardening and greening in the U.S. and
Canada.  ACGA is the leader in promoting community gardening as a tool for
community development,  food production and environmental education.  A
national, nonprofit membership organization of horticultural professionals,
community organizers and supporters of community gardening and greening,
ACGA is the main vehicle for networking and information sharing among
groups and individuals in this movement.  Through conferences, newsletters,
journals, list serves and other educational materials, ACGA keeps community
gardening organizations across the nation abreast of inspiring gardening
programs throughout the country, local and national political developments,
funding opportunities, and the availability of technical and educational
resources.
