(Rochester, NY) 01/28/05 -- A familiar voice and friend of the Rochester
Community--George "Doc" Abraham--has died.
Doc's daughter Leanna said her father was hospitalized Wednesday after
suffering chest pains on the way to the dentist. He died early Thursday evening of
complications from congestive heart failure.
He would have been 90 years old in February next month.
Doc and his wife, Katy, hosted "The Green Thumb" on WHAM 1180 radio for over
50 years. The program which featured advice on plants and gardening also aired
on Channel 13 for many years.
Doc was a 1938 graduate of Cornell University and married to the "love of his
life" Katy for 60 years.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 30 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the
Baird Funeral Home in Naples. A funeral service will be held on Monday at St.
Januarius Church in Naples at 2:00 pm.
His family is asking people to honor his life with a gift to the Naples
Community Park, which has a garden path named for Doc and Katy.
