If you're still looking for answers re the cats, I'm just now catching up on
my e-mail...cats hate lemon, orange and peppermint smells, so perhaps
essential oils mixed with water and sprayed regularly around the perimeter
would help. Also, they don't like a lot of noise in their "litter box" so
temporarily putting down plastic sheeting around the plants, while
unsightly, might be an effective way to put them off.
