GardenWorks East Metro Community Gardening Coordinator

Deadline Friday April 21, 2005

Farm In The City and GardenWorks is currently hiring a coordinator to
work with community garden groups in Ramsey County.

In 2004, The McKnight Foundation funded the development of a Twin Cities
Community Gardening Sustainability Plan.  In 2005, McKnight provided
additional funding to implement the plan that was developed.

GardenWorks is a collaborative program of Farm in the City, The Green
Institute's GreenSpace Partners program, The Minnesota State
Horticultural Society's Minnesota Green program..  These three
organizations oversee the project, and The Green Institute's Kirsten
Saylor manages the project.

Kirsten manages two staff, an East Metro Coordinator and a West Metro
Coordinator.  The Green Institute's Ila Duntemann serves as the West
Metro Coordinator.  We are currently seeking an East Metro Coordinator
to be hired through Farm In The City.

Responsibilities will include:
   * Building relationships with individual community garden groups in
Ramsey County
   * Building relationships with public agencies in the East Metro
   * Assisting with communications through a newsletter, brochure,
web-site and e-mail list
   * Planning and hosting public events
   * Fundraising
   * Providing information to the public and to the media about
community gardens
   * Connecting community garden groups to resources

The position will be 20 hours per week, and starting pay will range from
$15-$16/hr.  Opportunities are available to expand up to 40 hours per

This is a permanent position.  Funding has been secured for this
position through September, 2006.  Ongoing employment will be dependent
on fundraising.

The successful candidate will have many of the following qualifications:
   * Four year college degree or equivalent experience.
   * Familiarity with community gardens in Ramsey County.
   * Familiarity with public agencies (city councils, parks boards,
school boards, et cetera) in Ramsey County.
   * Strong writing skills.
   * Experience in producing newsletters and/or web sites.
   * Ability to work independently.
   * Experience working in diverse communities.
   * Communication skills in Spanish or Hmong.
   * Fundraising experience
   * Reliable transportation around the Twin Cities.
