Center for Urban Horticulture Fire

Title: Center for Urban Horticulture Fire

I wanted to tell you all about a tragic, senseless loss.  On May 21st the Center for Urban Hort. at the University of Washington Seattle, was set ablaze by an arsonist.  It is suspected that environmental terrorists caused the fire in protest of poplar research done at the Center.  Not only were years of graduate students, professors and administrative offices destroyed, but approximately 25% of the Miller library was lost.(Largest Hort. library in west.)

Washington Stat University also shared office space there.  The King County Master Gardener office, and the Urban Food Gardeners office were both completely destroyed.  Our library of approximately 300 books, as well as slides, archives and files were lost.

This was a misdirected act of violence that effected the careers, lives and work of many and destroyed a wonderful public resource.
