[cg] school garden---how to start?

hello--

I teach first grade at a large, diverse, low-income school in Oakland, CA.
I'm interested in finding out about starting a school garden.  In
particular, how do schools get past that first investment of funds to build
the garden?  The only spot available at our school is a steep little corner
that would need to be terraced with sturdy box beds.
