RE: community_garden digest, Vol 1 #1959 - 6 msgs

In reference to the question about Miami community gardens, there is a
garden in Overtown, which is Miami's poorest area, and, I was told, the
poorest community per capita in the nation. It has a really rich history,
and used to be a very self-sufficient Black community. the garden is some
resident's effort to be more self-sufficient again. it is a beautiful
garden, over an acre, that grows food, herbs and flowers for the residents
of Overtown and employs permaculture techniques. I dont know how you could
contact the organizers, except to just go to Overtown and ask around. the
folks at the garden are very welcoming, very smart, and its a really cool
project. i'm sure they would love the help.
take care,
