RE: Greetings Fern Folk!

Sue:

We had Pyrrosia sheareri overwinter now for 2 years in the garden, with a
low so far of 9 degrees F last winter. This is after killing three plants
in earlier years, all because of planting them flat. That's one thing I've
learned about all pyrrosias, they hate to be planted flat in the garden...at
least in cold winter climates.

Don't forget Pyrrosia sheareri. Last week for the third year in a row we
dropped to 15*F (-10 C) without the benefit of snow cover (formerly
unusual for the Seattle area) for many days. Most of the garden
including the Pyrrosia looked freeze dried but now the sheareri and P.
lingua including cv. Eboshi are fine. One sheareri and all of my linguas
were in pots making them even more vulnerable. I've had P. sheareri
outdoors in all sorts of weather for over 20 years and it is a prize.
