Pteris nativity

These are the kind of fern discussions that I like to read.  It "stimulates
the little gray cells" and if we bat it around enough we might come up with a
very good answer.

Along these lines I would like to pose an item for thought.  Ferns such as
Botrychium lunaroides and Equisetum sp. have underground gametophytes...how
are the sperm cells (microspores) able to locate the archegonium in order for
fertilization to take place?
