RE: Extended ASCII test

So, what appears is that only the boxes 141, 143, 144 and 157 come through the list the same as they were in my original message. Ironically, the boxes represent characters that my font could not display...

Note that some characters are circumscribed rather than converted: 128 (Euro), 133 (three dots), and 153 (trade mark). This proves that an active filter has changed the message. All characters that were ordinary letters from the alphabet with an additional diacritical sign have been replaced by just an ordinal alphabetic character (a-acute became "a", a-tilde "b", a-umlaut "c", etc.)

The degree characters (167 and 248) have become apostrophe and x respectively...

So the conclusion must be:

------------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT USE any characters that are not keys on a US-intl keyboard.
------------------------------------------------------------------

That's a bag of [fertiliser] for non-English speakers, but that's how it works.

Wim
