Larry,

Here in the Netherlands both D. carthusiana and D. dilatata frequently pop up
in any moist plant pots in the garden. Your pictures look like a one year old
sporeling of either. If still too young, than I expect at least by the end of
the year it'll have grown enough to see whether the stipe scales are uniformly
pale brown (carthusiana) or have a dark interior (dilatata).

Hi Don, the fern turned up last year unannounced from a spore I think,
unless it was dormant in the potting soil used when I potted up the bonsai.
The bonsai is a slilver birch, a native of my home country(England)
