Hello, David,
I thoroughly enjoyed your message about your "aviary" and the backbone
plants that make it so attractive to birds, as well as your mention of
the flowers that brighten up the scenery. I've been away for a while
and don't remember where you do your gardening. I'm guessing USDA Zone
6 or 7?
Tried growing gunnera in my Z. 5 yard, in garden soil (not the heavy
clay we are naturally blessed with) a couple of years ago, and killed
all 5 plants during their second season. Darn. What kind of climate,
soil, and light/shade are your gunnera fond of? I'd like to try them
again--I need more large foliaged plants, and those leaves are so
spectacular, they make me think of Jurassic Park and leaf-munching
dinosaurs <g!>.
Imagining your yard and coveting a wee bit,
Wendy in SW OH
