not melody, but caroms is a game similar to pool, except the board is about 3' to 4' square. it has corner pockets. the "caroms" themselves are small wooden doughnuts. you thump them with your fingers, trying to strike one with another, trying to get one to carom into a corner pocket. the game was all the rage before someone invented the pinball machine. to excel at it requires the same kind of skill and dedication that marbles requires--which is to say it is way too tedious for most 21st century youths.

Bonnie: The man who founded Jenn Aire, Louie Jenn, was born and raised
in our little teeny town of Hills, Iowa...my husband has an antique
carom board with the original carom pieces that belonged to Mr. Jenn
when he was a small boy (Louie's mother gave it to Marty when he was a
teenager).
