For those unfamiliar with this plant, it is the basis of popular soft 
drinks in Central America and the Caribbean. It is also what puts the 
zing in Red Zinger tea. It's an annual even here. Grows to 7 feet in a 
season. Self-seeds all over the place. Purple leaves are terrific in 
salads, not only for taste, but color. Flowers are pretty, but short 
lived.
