Re: today in zone 7

I just bought a sweet autumn clematis a few weeks ago (my first), planted it at one of the posts for the arbor over the back patio, so hoping it will climb up and over it. We have many of these at work and this is the first year they bloomed. It smelled wonderful on the back courtyard area. Too back they always keep those does set to autolock- so no one ever goes out there, because you can't get back into the building.

several varieties and they are showing different rates of germination.
The heavy wet snowfall a couple of weeks ago took the top 12-15 feet
out of a curly willow tree - right across the middle of the garden. I spent
some time cutting branches that I will take to the District Meeting tomorrow for anyone who wants them for flower arrangements or orchid
supports or to root. This tree was rooted from a cutting some years ago. There's still a lot more to be disposed of - don't know just how
I'll manage it.
I was distressed to find that my Sweet Autumn Clematis seems to be
totally dead - rotted off at the root. This vine has been quite spectacular
for the past fifteen or more years. I can't think what was different this year that would cause it's demise. It's interesting how different plants
respond to different weather conditions. A year ago when we had an
extremely bitter winter some things suffered but most looked pretty good. This winter has not been as cold, but several things look as if
they have not survived. Oh well. Better get my beauty sleep for tomorrow's meeting
