RE: Cats, so...

Temporary wrap of chicken wire or sticky paper on the palm, and a nice
tempting alternative like logs nearby to re-train the habit.
Pet stores sell spray cans of stuff that is supposed to be a deterrent, but
I don't know how well that works. Citrus odors are also supposed to be a
deterrent.

I have logs that I line the back of the beds w/ along the shrub/line and
Sugar loves to work those out.  Do you have a 2 or 3 foot section of log you
could lay out there in the vicinity?
