Re: Dividing Yucca filimentosa

I would not. Main reason leaves are trimmed back on divisions it to reduce transpiration. Yuccas are very water thrifty and likely do not transpire heavily enough to threaten growth of the sprout.

Should I cut back the leaves when I pot them?

Cathy, Yucca sprouts very easily from root cuttings (or I guess maybe
they're rhizomes..) So separating them from the mother plant and potting
them for a little while should be OK. Jims Fischer & Singer, does that
sound correct? I created many new varigated Yuccas from root cuttings.

Sounds like just what I would do if I needed to divide. If not, wait
a year or three and look again for roots on the children.
