Most of what I know about this palm, Pam, I know from Betrock's "Guide to Landscape Palms," which isn't much. Betrock says it's hardy to zone 8 and may reach 10 feet. So it's smallish for a palm. It's also a clumper--develops multiple stems. But it's not a menace like, say, bamboo--just a slow grower that becomes a specimen in 10 or so years.
When I was a kid in SoCal, the green variety of this palm was very popular because it is also drought tolerant and not at all fussy about soil type.
