Maybe next year, Jesse. My pepper experiments this year are confined to the seeds I got from Turkey [a swap for seeds of the native swamp lotus] and year two of my peter pepper. I expect the black ones are pretty hot--real endorphin turn ons--but, then, so are the Turkish ones.
I'm reading "Curry: a Tale of Cooks and Conquerors" and am really fascinated by the way the chili [taken from the New World by Columbus to Spain and hence by the Portuguese to the subcontinent] spread throughout that part of the world. They were selecting varieties, apparently, while we were still bitching about the tax on tea.
