Not only is there a new one, but the 5th manufacturer has refused to come
forward.
"Federal officials announced today that the pet food recall is expanding yet
again, with a new company pulling dog food tainted with an industrial chemical
off the market.
SmartPak says on its Web site that it's recalling a single production run of
LiveSmart Weight Management Chicken and Brown Rice Dog Food.
The company said the food contained rice protein concentrate contaminated with
melamine, an industrial chemical linked to the deaths of scores of pets in the
United States, Canada and South Africa. Three other companies that also put
the tainted concentrated rice protein in cat or dog food have recalled some
products. A fifth pet food company that received the contaminated ingredient
has not been named."
And then there's this:
" Health officials now say some of that contaminated pet food was fed to hogs
in as many as six states. It's not clear yet if any of the hogs entered the
food supply for humans."
Had Buddy to the vet yesterday and his kidney function is still not normal,
and his hematocrit is down, but the vet says he seems to be "stable."
