Re: climbing rose

Hi Judy, I'm quite sure you didn't kill it. The GD rabbits eat mine down to the ground almost every winter, and they come back and bloom their hearts out every(10) year.

re "The Fairy". Mine wins a prize at the county fair every time I enter it. Not fragrant, but looks good all summer as long as I nip off the dead blooms once or twice. I chopped it back to 2-3 foot canes this spring. Had to get in there to dig some daylillies I wanted to move. So far it's sulking. Hope I didn't kill it.

David, Two old and reliable climbers that I recommend to clients because they have few thorns are 'Zephirine Drouhin' and 'Lady Banks' yellow. The 'Lady Banks' white variety has good scent. I have ordered 'Aromatherapy' from Jungs. I like to order roses from them as they specify which ones are "own root". Too
many bad experiences with grafted roses! I love all kinds of salvia with
roses...also nepeta 'Walkers Low' .
I wonder if the 'Fairy Rose', a rebloomer with millions of small pink flowers would work on a trellis. Mine lean on a fence as they have long gangly canes
if not pruned back. Very thorny, though. Kathy
