And it is summer here- I was HOT mowing the lawn after work today- was probably 80. Spring is over, my very pink azalea flowers are toast, as it the lily of the valley, snow peas just need to be picked and then pulled up. Ohh, but my rhodedendron is going to bloom (for the first time). Bad news is that the front tree (a HUGE tree) appears to be infested with wooly aphids. I'm afraid this could be a garden catastrophe..... Ideas are welcome. I'm going to go get a couple of tubs of ladybugs after work tomorrow.... Good news is my bathroom sink is in. My very nice plumber came yesterday and moved the water and drain lines and helped me install (or really I helped him) the vanity and granite counter tops with sinks attached and faucets. I'm quite happy with how it came out, except I don't like the yellow paint on the walls anymore (not enough contrast with the counter and maple cabinets). So- I'll repaint before I hang the mirror. It was 73 when I went past the thermometer a few minutes ago. We just missed a freeze yesterday. It was supposed to be in the 20s, but while there was frost on the roof, the plants look ok, and I didn't see any frost on the ground. Our last frost here was on May 5th one year, but that's been almost 2 decades. In recent years, until the Great Easter Freeze last year, frost has generally been done with by April 5th or so. What is weird is that winter has been warmer than usual in the last decade, so plants suffer more damage.Spring is here to stay, I think. d ----- Original Message ----- From: "Betsy Kelson" <bkelson@ix.netcom.com> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Thursday, April 17, 2008 10:57 AM Subject: Re: [CHAT] WeatherWe had 8" of snow between yesterday afternoon and this morning. Eitherparts of the country are warmer than normal or colder. Nothing seemedjustordinary. I would really like to be ordinary instead of expecting frostonApril 14!!! Of course, our (usual) last frost date is April 15, andthat'sthe date we had an awful killing frost last year. Btw, Cyndi, the flowers you described sounded really lovely. I'm also jealous over your progress with your gardens. zem ----- Original Message ----- From: "james singer" <islandjim1@verizon.net> To: <gardenchat@hort.net> Sent: Monday, April 14, 2008 12:22 PM Subject: Re: [CHAT] Weather >I don't know if I'm seeing this because all of you are mentioning it,but>the weather does seem to be seesawing between chillier than usual forthe>time of year and warmer--without so much as pausing at normal on its >way>up or down.--------------------------------------------------------------------- To sign-off this list, send email to majordomo@hort.net with the message text UNSUBSCRIBE GARDENCHAT
