RE: OT - baby chicks

I haven't seen chicks at any feed stores in probably 15 years. I don't
know why they don't have them any longer. Might be there are CA laws
about selling animals that are just too onerous for a seasonal thing
like that. Or they got stuck with chicks that didn't sell and quit. We
always bought ours mail-order because we could specify what we wanted
instead of whatever the feed store had.
We used to have a local livestock auction as well, lots of poultry there
- usually not chicks though - but you took your chances of getting a
sick animal and you just knew all the roosters were going to end up in
cockfights. That closed down about 5 years ago but I did hear they
reopened recently.
