The weekend was fabulous. I went hiking Saturday morning with my friend,
who is recovered enough to walk a few miles now, and took oodles of
wildflower pictures. We also went to an iris show and sale, I bought
some pretty tall bearded iris for the garden. And I spent the rest of
Saturday weeding the dry garden, which is so overgrown with grass you
could barely see the flowering shrubs. I didn't get it done, but I made
a visible dent, yay! About 3 days straight weeding would clear it, but
I'm not going to get that kind of time, I'll just do what I can.
Sunday we took the horses out in the wildflower fields again. It's even
better than last week, and surprisingly fewer people out there. Oh man
it's gorgeous right now, almost makes up for having to live here the
rest of the year.
I planted my melons, cucumbers, and would have planted the zucchini
except the packet of seeds had been infested with some kind of insect
and all the seeds were trashed. I'll have to write the company but I
need to buy another packet this week. Zucchini is kind of generic so
whatever I find should be okay.
I moved everything out of the greenhouse and started planting the
ornamentals, I put out a lot of zinnias and was trying to decide where
to put the ornamental millet. And then the most marvelous thing
happened. I heard husband talking to a cat in the garage, I thought our
outdoor cat, but he comes out a minute later and says "Bandit is back"!
Bandit is one of our indoor cats, she got out a month ago and
disappeared, not a sign of her the whole time. I was sure she was dead,
taken by an owl or coyote. But no! Thin but not emaciated, she is happy
to be back and followed me around the house talking all evening. Her
sister cat is not pleased at all. I, however, am very happy.
