Dear friends: Am finally caught up with the e-mail that accumulated
while I was gone. In light of some of the recent topics of conversation,
here is something from me to all of you. Hope you enjoy it!!
Moles and Voles
and Gnomes and Such
Walking in my garden
is a peculiar excursion
of trying to avoid the moleholes
and the voleholes,
the gnome traps and the fairy webs
dusted with the pollen
of my flowers
where it has fallen off
the growing things
when carelessly brushed
by the beating wings
of pixies chasing one another,
laughing wildly.
One can hear the distant echoes
of their tinkling chatter
trapped within the
tubular bells of the foxgloves
and trumpetvines,
collected late at night
by the gnome children
who sprinkle them on their food
like nonpareils
on ice cream
...a crunchy-sweet-rainbow-of-colors.
Melody (Iowa Z 5/4)
