I've been up north by the Canadian border, near Ottawa, for four days. We
have a family place on a small lake in the boon docks. No phone, no TV,
water for washing from the lake... You get the picture. It's an Amish
farming community and very beautiful.

We have had to evacuate several times during hurricanes and Nor' easters.
Our house is 12' above mean high water and only our crawl space has been
flooded. The house has been surrounded by what looked like a lake of water.
We had to have any army truck bring us to our 800' driveway the next day,
then we walked through 12 - 18 " water to get to the house to check on the
animals! (We were at work or school when they evacuated.) People across
the street from us are more exposed to the seas and had their houses washed
through! We found their furniture, jewelry, and other belongings after the
water receded a week later! Not an experience that I'd want to repeat!
