Whortleberry

My whortleberry cactus cutting [Myrtillocactus geometrizans] that bloomed a week ago, set that bloom. Today the fruit was ripe, and I ate it. Delicious. The fruit is about the size of a blueberry and, unlike some other cactus fruits, spineless. Quite juicy and tasty, with the same sub-acid undertones that blueberries have [which may explain the association, although the flavors are distinctly different].

This is the cactus that is used as the base plant for all those goofy grafted cactuses. Left alone, it might produce a delightful fruit crop in anyone's living room.
